Intermaxillary Traction

This was an adult patient scheduled for posterior maxillary impaction to correct an anterior open bite. Instead, after initial alignment, palatal implants were used for intrusion of the upper buccal segments (with differential elevation of palatal cusps). The patient then had extraction of the 8s (once it was clear that intrusion was successful). Closure of premolar spaces did not commence until after the positive overbite was established. This demonstrates true intrusion of molars, relative to the level of the U8s, and to the extent that posterior openbites were created.
